A ".hidden" file in a folder contains names (one per line) that a user wants hidden. Even though the wikipedia page says this is something GNOME specific, KDE Dolphin (along with a lot of other file managers) support this "standard". But Krusader doesn't - leading to a lot of cruft in some of my directories. Related bug (that was fixed) in KIO: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=246260
