Description David 2018-07-12 14:07:38 UTC
Sometimes, plasmashell would seemingly at random times turn all icons into what looks like random black figures, making them indistinguishable from one another. This is overwhelmingly more likely to happen when using multiple virtual desktops. After normal usage of multiple windows on ~5 virtual desktops, this problem happens once about every half an hour.

The icons would come back if I kill plasmashell and launch it again.

Graphical setup: mesa drivers, kernel 4.16.0-2, intel integrated graphic card, X11 (not wayland).

Happens on Wayland as well?

What icons all? For example in task manager, launcher/menu, desktop?

No idea if it happens on wayland, and don't have the necessary setup to try it either, sorry. Happens with all icons in the task manager and system tray. Not sure about desktop ones as I haven't really checked, but will try to provide more info when it happens again.

Had the bug happen again now and it seems that the icons are replaced with slices of some terminal window. This time, I had a konsole window open with colored text on it, and the icons seem to each take a bit of it.

It affects: taskbar icons, system tray, panel widgets.
The icons in the application launcher are all black instead of having pieces of the konsole window like the others.
After a while, it also affects desktop icon and desktop widgets - for example, the notes widgets has a piece of the konsole terminal in the background with the text that I wrote as notes over it.

Thanks for the update; changing status.

It's like the Intel version of Bug 364766. Changes were made to Plasma and Qt to fix it; could you test again with Plasma 5.21 and Qt 5.15.2 or later and see if it's still happening? Thanks!

It's a bug that happens only occasionally and I no longer use the same hardware as back then. At least with all-AMD hardware and KDE>=5.17.5, I have yet to experience this bug.

OK, thanks. If you can't reproduce it anymore, I guess there's not much we can do to debug. Hopefully it was fixed by those changes.
