Description nuc 2018-07-08 00:31:32 UTC
So everytime I get a sound cue (e.g. when getting the "Discard or Apply changed settings" dialog under System Settings) I would get a notification that default audio device is being "switched":

"Switching to the audio playback device Family 17h (Models 00h-0fh) HD Audio controller Analog Stereo which has higher preference or is specifically configured for this stream."

I get this notification again each time after reopening system settings and getting another sound cue.

Why is it switching constantly?? I just want my default device to be used all the time, no switching involved..

Also, while I don't know if it's related, my default playback device hasn't been used by Spotify automatically, but I needed to change it for Spotify manually *again*. So either I really get something wrong or setting the default audio device under KDE doesn't work correctly. Note that I manually changed my default playback device at the very beginning after installing KDE.

Sorry if this sounds confusing, but that's just how confusing it looks to me as an end user.

Ok so here's some follow-up. While I am not getting those annoying notifications anymore, I have noticed that most newly installed applications don't use the default device I have globally configured.

Instead, I need to manually configure it per application each time I install a new sound application.

Seems odd. A lot of this was re-worked recently; any chance you could re-test with Plasma 5.19?
