Description Jean-Claude 2018-06-23 10:27:07 UTC
I'm a bit at a loss because I recently get the following error when I try to solve :
"Solver failed. Try again
Error starting solver: Process crashed"
I get this error only on laptop and not on the desktop although I'm using exactly the same KStars configuration on both machines (I copied in fact the whole disk of the desktop to the laptop)
The Astrometry folders are identical.
I'm using the simulators.
What is the origin of this problem ?
Thanks

I am having PRECISELY the same issue. Solver works on my iMac but same process crashed error message on my MacBook Air.

J-C, did you ever get an answer or otherwise resolve this issue?

Thanks,
stan in Brooklyn

Hi Stan,
No more problem. I'm using Kstars 3.2.2 as well.

Good for you, Jean-Claude!

How were you able to fix it?

Thanks,
stan

Well, I don't know what I did !
This sort of opposite behaviour of KStars on two machines occurred also in other occasions : a feature was working on my iMac and not on my MacBook Pro.
I would suggest the following :
1/ Make a complete backup of your MacBook Air with the excellent Carbon Copy Cloner.
2/ Copy your iMac disk to your MacBook Air disk (because you have probably a smaller disk on your MacBook Air, you will have to exclude photos, music ...). But your applications and system will be identical.
3/ See if the solver works.
Please tell me the result.

Yes, I already tried that. Even erased my Air's hard disk and reinstalled Mojave, kstars and the rest. To no avail...

I tried copying the kStars app file from my iMac to my Air after a clean OSX install. Didn't solve the problem!

I noticed there was a lot of discussion of Python around this problem so I checked and I have the same version of Python on both machines: v2.7.10. Not sure whether that matters...

Also tried copying my "kStars" folder from Application Support in my home directory to the Air from the iMac. Nope, that didn't fix it either. Solver crashes upon launch on the Air.

Did you try to copy the Astrometry folder located in Library/Application Support ?
Comment 10 Jean-Claude 2019-05-31 00:35:14 UTC
Did you try to solve an image with the app Astrometry from CloudMakers (it uses the same folder) ?

Merci, Jean-Claude

Rob m'a contacté et nous sommes en train d'analyser la situation. "Illegal Instruction error 4" ce qui n'est pas original...

I did, and it worked. But not the solver in kStars.

Hi Stan,

I reported previously this problem : "Solver failed on one Mac but not on the other !"
https://indilib.org/forum/general/3417-solver-failed-on-one-mac-but-not-on-the-other.html

The reason was that I renamed "KStars" as "KStars 2.9.5" with a space.
Taking away the space solved the problem.
