On starting up the system reports that for example: " * Transaction 'T000000000000000001' has a post date '.....' before one of the referenced account's opening date." and there are 106 of these. This never happened with previous Linuxes. I'm on Debian 9.4 now. It's very annoying.
Does it do that every time, or only once? I believe it should automatically fix those. Please post the full tezt of one of the messages. Also, does it really do it as soon as you start KMM/open the file, or are you saving the file or doing a manual consistency check? Also, 4.8.0 is getting long in the tooth. Can you update to 5.0 or at least 4.8.1? (4.8.2 has recently been released, but is not likely packaged yet for many distros.)

Hi, it does it sporadically, I haven't worked out when exactly, but every 5 minutes when I'm trying to work and saving work. Here is the full text of one of the messages: * Transaction 'T000000000000000001' has a post date '08/01/1998' before one of the referenced account's opening date. Referenced accounts: Z-Closed Accounts:MVEH.BIKE.CB250 The post date was not updated to '24/06/2007'. As for updating, I haven't the ability to do that without doing a operating system upgrade which I have just done, from Debian 7.4 to 9.4. Also I note that there is no such problem with Linux Mint KDE 4.14.16 KMyMoney 4.6.6 on my laptop. Thanks for your help with this.
OK - it's very important to provide full, accurate information so we can actually focus on the problem. Those errors are because it seems one of the acccounts referenced is closed, so KMM cannot update the opening date. (There was a bug fixed recently where the KMM listed the wrong account as being closed, so check all accounts related to the transaction - including any category indicated.) The errors are shown by the consistency checker, which runs every time you save the file. Oddly, we have also recently received an email report of an account "Z-undeletable" which would not have been created by the software. Can you check if there is an account called Z-Closed or something close, and is it really closed? Is that the account you are trying to add transactions to? Also look for an account MVEH-BIKE-CB25. You might be able to right click on the transaction in the ledger, and see an option to go to either of those accounts. If you do that, and then click the menu Account/Edit, you should have the option to "reopen" the account. KMM should then be able to automatically adjust the opening date.
OK many thanks, I'll do as you suggest as soon as possible.
