Description kelseighn 2018-06-15 13:31:11 UTC
Per the summary, whenever I open a new tab Speed Dial can sometimes take several seconds to load before I'm able to navigate to a new page. When it does load, every preview is just either a broken image or a loading icon that doesn't change. When I hit the reload button on any preview, it simply defaults to a broken image right away.

This reduces the usefulness of the Speed Dial page quite a bit, which is unfortunate since having used it on Vivaldi for some time before moving to Falkon, I got quite a bit of use out of it. I would love to see it improved here.

This should be fixed in Falkon 3.0.1, what version do you have?
Comment 2 David Rosca 2018-06-15 13:38:25 UTC
Well, actually, you are probably missing required QML/QtQuick packages.

I'm on 3.0.0 right now.

Looks like I have the "QT5 QTQuick2 QML module" already installed, so going by the previous comment it looks like it's a matter of the 3.0.1 version of Falkon not making it to the Ubuntu MATE repositories yet. If that's the case I can just be patient until it does and see what happens.

Do you have QtWebEngineQuick installed?

You should see the error when runnning Falkon from terminal.

I don't get an error, when I run from terminal it just goes back to the prompt while Falkon opens independently. So I don't get any messages that way at all.

I did look for QtWebEngineQuick on Synaptic, and no available packages seem to mention it.

You must close current Falkon instance first.

Ah, I see!

Yes, I am missing QtWebEngineQuick. However, it doesn't seem to be available on the Ubuntu repositories so I have no clue what packages to look for.

Try qml-module-qtwebengine
Comment 10 David Rosca 2018-06-15 17:57:55 UTC
And also please report this to Ubuntu packagers so the dependencies are fixed. Thanks.

That did the trick, thank you. The package is present and restarting Falkon resulted in a properly working speed dial.

As to reporting to the Ubuntu package maintainers, I'm not exactly sure how to do that. Plus it may have been fixed for 3.0.1, for all I know.
