A few days ago I noticed that I was unable to archive emails anymore. My usual routine is to go through my inbox and archive emails that do not require any further attention for now. This however has stopped working.

I have 4 different IMAP accounts and all experience the same issue. In addition I'm also unable to copy or move messages outside of the 'archival' function. It would eventually fail with the message "unable to move item".

This frequently coincides with the inability to read/open emails with "Retrieving Folder Contents; Please wait...". Needless to say that makes KMail essentially impossible to use.

I am also running KMail on a separate device (also OpenSUSE TW) where the issue doesn't appear, so it seems to be limited to this current installation.

Thank you for reporting this issue in KDE software. As it has been a while since this issue was reported, can we please ask you to see if you can reproduce the issue with a recent software version?
