Description Diego Gangl 2018-05-22 19:06:36 UTC
I think I've found a blind spot in elisa's UI/UX. There's no way to play a track immediately without losing the entire playlist or enqueuing it and then having to scroll down to find it. There's also no search function in the playlist, which means the only way to play a specific track, even if it is in the playlist, is to find it in a view, add it and then scroll all the way to the bottom to play it.

I recently noticed this with a 6000 track playlist and it's a bummer :)

It'd be nice to have search in the playlist and and option to enqueue and play. I don't think it needs to be an extra button though, maybe holding ctrl turns the enqueue button's text to "enqueue and play" and then clicking adds and plays the song right away.

We could also add back a contextual menu to do that.

The playlist now has an "Undo" button every time is it cleared or replaced, so hopefully this situation is not so dire anymore.

However I agree with you that we are missing the ability to very quickly play a single song without affecting the playlist at all. I have often wanted this while building a new playlist; I want to hear a few seconds of a song so I can decide whether or not I want it in the playlist. But I can't do tihs without adding it to the playlist or replacing the contents of the playlist, which defeats the point. Perhaps we need some kind of "quick preview" or " play immediately" functionality.

Why clear the playlist at all if one clicks on play?
The solution would be to simply stop the current song from the playlist and play the new one. There's not much to it isn't it?

There could be simple "+" button in the toolbar "add to current playlist" if you like the song. The song then would be added and selected in the playlist.

Right now every song being played needs to be added to the playlist somewhere.

The plus button does an "append to playlist", so perhaps a "prepend to playlist" action could be used, which immediately adds the selected song/album/whatever to the beginning of the playlist, not the end.

hi, i'm quite interested in this request, especially as my flow depends heavily on this kind of feature. So i was just gonna ask, are there any plans for this kind of feature to be added?

If anyone works on it, it'll be reviewed and accepted if it's good quality.
