Description KDE end user 2018-05-10 11:47:23 UTC
Hi,

I have just booted up my laptop, but the screen display is very dim. There are no controls available in the battery and brightness notification widget (?) for changing the screen brightness. When the laptop boots, the text is very bright until it gets to a particular part of systemd booting, then the display dims. Unfortunately, because the display is so dim, it's really difficult to do any digging into the problem, and KDE is not presenting a way to set the screen brightness, so it is not very easy to dig into the problem. I am not sure how to categorise the problem, but screen brightness is not really a security issue, but a user/usability preference issue. It is quite annoying, because without a way to change the screen brightness to a readable level, the laptop doesn't serve any useful purpose. I'm running on 64-bit Ubuntu 16.04, the laptop is a Sony VPCEB3LOE. This is also my first bug report. I think the most annoying thing is that as it is a dual boot machine, I have to switch to windows to get anything done.

The versions of KDE software that come with Ubuntu 16.04 are no longer maintained. Please try with Ubuntu 18.04.
