Description wincak 2018-04-02 20:42:16 UTC
Sending emails using SMTP stopped working by itself. Messages get stuck in outbox and automated repeated attempts to send them end with message:

Failed to transport message. Network unreachable

I'm using unenctypted connection to smtp.seznam.cz port 25, PLAIN authentication. This configuration used to work until recently and is still listed in server's help as a viable configuration.

Receiving emails works OK just like in:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=330849

Since kmail doesn't seem to provide any additional debug logs I tried to use Akonadi console but couldn't figure out how to get anything useful out of it either.

After I reported this issue it fixed itself eventually and sending email started working again without my direct intervention.
For some time I was unable to reproduce the issue until it reappeared after recent software upgrade and disappeared again soon.
I believe the upgrade process somehow breaks communication between KMail and Akonadi components and reboot fixes it.

The bug is back. Sending emails ends in "Failed to transport message. Network unreachable" and reboot doesn't help anymore.

I have the same problem. I am sometimes not able to send or receive Emails. Every day after I restarted my openSUSE leap 4.3 system it works oke. After some time, an hour +, it starts failing. The only way I can get it to work again is completelly logout, wait a few minutes and login again or Send a Email to myself that ends up waiting in error in my mail-out box (Time out while logging on smtp-sever), disconnect my wireless network, wait a few minutes and restart the wireless network. I get than a popup message telling me that the send program for Emails is offline. Emails can not be send. The system asks whether I want to set it online. If I do that it works oke for some time and than the problem start over again.
Why is the mail sending program put offline and not automatically put online again after the cause off putting it offline disappeared.
What is the command to put the the mail sending program on line again or better so is there a menu item to do it or a pop up button once the mail sending program is put offline.

This bug makes using Kontact_Kmail very user unfriendly.

This problem used to be rather frequent and annoying but hasn't been happening for quite some time now even though I'm using KMail daily. Possibly the cause has been already resolved.

Since there hasn't been any activity for over two years, I suggest closing this bug.

I can confirm this issue is still present on latest KMail (5.16.3).

In my case it is the first mail I try to send after a new configuration.

Unfortunately it seems impossible to exclude a configuration error or unfold what is going on as no information is provided on which SMTP server the client is trying to reach.
