Description Lanza 2018-03-30 17:08:50 UTC
Krita 4.0.0 crashes right after splash windows close on old 2007 iMac.

I will provide more info as soon as I can log in again on this mac. I suspect an unsupported instruction by its CPU.

Hi Lanza,

Is that still a 32 bits version of OSX? I wouldn't have a clue anyway, I'm not a mac guru, and to be honest, I don't think I can afford to spend time trying to support 10 year old macs, since I'm pretty much the only person currently doing mac stuff and it isn't even my main platform...

It's a 64 bits version, 32 bits only capable macs are stuck to Lion. But CPU is a Core 2 Duo, it may lack some instructions.

I think I will give it a try in a week or two. I need to do some cleanup on my mac (well, that pc with macOS somewhere on a disk). It is not my home main platform either. (But my children draw on this iMac, so I'd really like to have a running version). Strange thing is beta from february 17 runs very well.

My work mac has too many homebrew thingies and I did not manage to compile Krita on it.

Okay, let's see what further info you can come up with.

Yes, that looks like a missing instruction: I think that this computer doesn't support AVX. We probably could find a way to check for that, though I'm not sure how much time I should spend on that, given that 11 year old systems aren't exactly prevalent.

4.1.3 now works. Totally would recommend this version for iMac users like me. Great job; feel free to mark as resolved. :D

It probably is by accident, though, all I did was update the version of xcode and build against the latest frameworks, but with a a deployment target of, I think, 10.11.
