After getting a lot of random crashes with my new HP Envy x360 Ryzen 2500U, I've decided to try Gnome and XFCE as other users reported issues only with KDE*. The crashes are completely random, can take a few hours or a few days after boot to happen. Happens with kernel 4.5.12 and 4.16-rc6. Disabling C6 zen state doesn't help. Magically, only by not using KDE I could never reproduce it, and it is been more than 3 days with Gnome and XFCE. Besides KDE, games seems to be another source of problem. The problem happens without the Compositor enabled. If I enable it (only works with 4.16), then it seems to happen more often and earlier than usual. Is KWin likely using a problematic GL or X11 extension? * one example: https://www.phoronix.com/forums/forum/phoronix/latest-phoronix-articles/1015074-latest-amdgpu-dc-plays-nicer-with-raven-ridge-but-still-linux-gaming-stability-issues?p=1015195#post1015195
I'm using Archlinux with the lastest KDE and components
We need a backtrace of the crash to investigate.
please ignore, I could reproduce this under XFCE and developers at amd-gfx are working like crazy to fix these hangs
