Fresh installation of openSUSE Tumbleweed (Krypton) - cannot install any applications via Discover. 

- Click "install"
- Enter root password
- Download/install runs
- App listing refreshes with "Install" still available
- No application installed or added to launcher
- Repeatable

Installation through YaST automatically selects missing dependencies (is this the problem?) and installs the application.

Is there a way to enable logging or verbose output for Discover? Let me know if I can collect any debugging information to help.

You should get some debug output executing it on the terminal.

You can also check if installing works properly with pkcon. e.g. pkcon install <packagename>.

I ended up ditching Tumbleweed in favor of Kubuntu 18.04 to feed my cutting-edge cravings. 

I forgot to close this. I'll do it now.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I'm back to running Tumbleweed (Krypton, so everything is git-current). 

Trying to install Inkscape. Click "Install"... long pause... finally prompted for root password. "Installing" animation begins on Install button. Finishes, but still reads "Install". Inkscape not installed (searching from Kickoff). Try again, same result.

Using "pkcon search inkscape", I found these entries:

As before, YaST installs Inkscape (and all dependencies) without issues.

Your investigation suggests it may be an error in PackageKit zypper backend. Can you check with them?
