Many times I connect to wifi only to have kde connect not... connect really. Usually a plasma 5 restart is good enough.

I have 1.8 on the phone now (jee add a version in the app please), even if I stop the internet connection the audio file playing notification and the controls are still there but obviously they do nothing. A bit annoying to have that HUGE notification there that YOU CAN'T SWIPE EITHER not go away even if you closed the internet connection.

I have a Samsung Galaxy J3 2016 with android 5.1.1, not sure if even relevant. I am also on KDE Neon 5.12.3.
