if I start kbackup from gui, I get no response.  If I start it from the command line, I get this message:
kbackup: symbol lookup error: kbackup: undefined symbol: _ZN3KIO8UDSEntryaSEOS0_

problem persists after update to 1.0.2-2.10

It seems you do not have the KF5 5.44 version libraries installed.
The missing symbols were apparently added in 5.44 in the KIO library:
