There is no need in one, while DE is used on the desktop.

Thanks for the clarification. Generally, not everything is needed in every situation. Where do you see the benefit compared to the effort to create and maintain an additional option? Where should this option be placed in the GUI? Maybe it is easier to just ignore the existence of the Airplane mode button? I use Networks widget in tray rather often for connevting to VPN networks, so as I think many users do. Airplane mode button increases the size of the drop down window and it this at the most top, so it's the first thing I see, altough I don't need it at all. Also it seems a bit confusing that Options button lays in the same row as an Airplane mode button, so one can think that it allows you to configure Airplane mode, not the whole network.
