Most operating systems inform the user about RJ45 jacks having an uplink (being attached to a network) with a cable. KDE does not do this, would be nice if it did.
We do that, if you plug in cable, you should get ethernet connection icon with a question mark indicating that you are able to get connected through ethernet. You will of course won't see this if you are connected through wifi or modem. If you get connected automatically once you plug in ethernet cable, then you also get ethernet connection icon in case the new connection has default route.
