Description Marcel 2018-02-27 18:15:15 UTC
Spectacle works great in most cases. But I found it will cause system halt if I had applications that are running in full-screen mode when take a screenshot. For instance, I have Konsole running in full screen mode, and then firefox is launched in the same desktop (but not running with full screen). The system will lost response if I take a screenshot of firefox (select active window area). It seems the panel still works. So I can close Konsole using the task bar.

System info:
Plasma version: 5.12.1
Frameworks version: 5.43.0
Qt version: 5.10.0
Kernel version: 4.15.5
Platform: openSUSE Tumbleweed

Thanks for the report.

Could you detail what you mean with "system halt"?

Perhaps it is just the window manager (KWin) crashing. Please try to observe closely what happens to the title bars of windows once you triggered the problem.

Also, do you have "Delay" set to "No Delay", and could you test with another delay?

I think you are correct. Likely only KWin crashed. After I took a screen shot (I tried to take a screenshot of current active window, which is firefox), the title bar disappeared. BTW, it's not necessary to be full screen.

Even if it sounds unimportant, it would help tremendously to answer this too.

Actually, that's what I'm doing right now. I have tried different delay values: No Delay, 1s, 2s, KWin will crash as long as the "Include window titlebar and borders" is checked. It works well if this option is unchecked.

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks, it is.

Given the symptoms, I'm merging your report with Bug 391118, where the next step would be to retrieve a backtrace for the crash.
