Nice one! Installed all updates. Reboot. Log into KDE. Get black screen with mouse cursor. Lol. Love your work guys ;)
Try to keep things constructive. X or wayland? Also please tell us which distro? Does this happen for a new user? Can you access krunner with alt+f2 if so can you spawn plasmashell from there and report on any output. Failing that, can you from a TTY look at ~/.local/share/sddm/xorg-session.log and report if there's anything relevant there.
If it's Neon dev edition. It's a known downstream issue.
Can confirm, ran an update and logged into a black screen with the mouse cursor.
Please do not change the status unless you did provide the information requested in comment #1.
X or wayland? X11 Also please tell us which distro? KDE neon developer edition, 16.04, xenial Does this happen for a new user? not sure Can you access krunner with alt+f2 yes if so can you spawn plasmashell from there and report on any output. no visible output Failing that, can you from a TTY look at ~/.local/share/sddm/xorg-session.log and report if there's anything relevant there. that log is empty. Basically I can log in fine, after login I get black screen with the cursor. I can start the konsole (alt+ctrl+T) and start the browser (google-chrome-stable) and it seem to work fine. The network is connected fine over ethernet, wifi fails.
Then you are seeing bug 390919 (pending Qt update; still needs to rebuild all packages). Let's wait for the information from the original reporter.
Hi Hi, I was on KDE Plasma Neon 5.12.1 using this repository: deb http://archive.neon.kde.org/release xenial main I am running a fully updated Ubuntu 16.04. I was notified in the notification area of updates that was ready to download and install. I selected to update all. When this was done, I was prompted for more updates, I updated all. When this was done I rebooted for good measure. Got to the KDE login screen. Logged in and got the black screen with a mouse cursor. I tried to move .config .local .cache .kde to a backup folder. Tried again same thing. dpkg -l | grep -i mesa shows ii libegl1-mesa:amd64 17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 amd64 free implementation of the EGL API -- runtime ii libegl1-mesa-drivers:amd64 12.0.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 amd64 transitional dummy package ii libgl1-mesa-dev:amd64 17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 amd64 free implementation of the OpenGL API -- GLX development files ii libgl1-mesa-dri:amd64 17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 amd64 free implementation of the OpenGL API -- DRI modules ii libgl1-mesa-dri:i386 17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 i386 free implementation of the OpenGL API -- DRI modules ii libgl1-mesa-glx:amd64 17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 amd64 free implementation of the OpenGL API -- GLX runtime ii libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 i386 free implementation of the OpenGL API -- GLX runtime ii libglapi-mesa:amd64 17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 amd64 free implementation of the GL API -- shared library ii libglapi-mesa:i386 17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 i386 free implementation of the GL API -- shared library ii libgles2-mesa:amd64 17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 amd64 free implementation of the OpenGL|ES 2.x API -- runtime ii libglu1-mesa:amd64 9.0.0-2.1 amd64 Mesa OpenGL utility library (GLU) ii libglu1-mesa:i386 9.0.0-2.1 i386 Mesa OpenGL utility library (GLU) ii libglu1-mesa-dev:amd64 9.0.0-2.1 amd64 Mesa OpenGL utility library -- development files ii libopenvg1-mesa:amd64 10.1.3-0ubuntu0.6 amd64 free implementation of the OpenVG API -- runtime ii libosmesa6:amd64 17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 amd64 Mesa Off-screen rendering extension ii libosmesa6:i386 17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 i386 Mesa Off-screen rendering extension ii libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0:amd64 0~git20131104-1.1 amd64 Texture compression library for Mesa ii libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0:i386 0~git20131104-1.1 i386 Texture compression library for Mesa ii libwayland-egl1-mesa:amd64 17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 amd64 implementation of the Wayland EGL platform -- runtime ii mesa-common-dev:amd64 17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 amd64 Developer documentation for Mesa ii mesa-utils 8.3.0-1 amd64 Miscellaneous Mesa GL utilities ii mesa-va-drivers:amd64 17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 amd64 Mesa VA-API video acceleration drivers ii mesa-vdpau-drivers:amd64 17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1 amd64 Mesa VDPAU video acceleration drivers My /var/log/Xorg.0.log is attached I do not know about alt+f2 :( The only way I managed to get my system back was sudo apt-get purge kde-* neon-* plasma-* then sudo apt-get install plasma-desktop If you need more information let me know

Does it still happen with recent neon version?
