I have two versions of Mixxx that I want to run. The main one is from the repos, and the other is a custom dekstop entry I've added to the menus, called "Mixxx-beta", which runs the git version of mixxx within GDB. I would like to pin both to the taskbar, but I can't - when I try to pin the Mixxx-beta version, and then quit, and re-open it from the taskbar pin, it opens the plain Mixxx version. I guess this is some kind of bug caused by the taskbar pin using the window name instead of the desktop entry name to identify apps?
This is a work-around, and is maybe good enough that this should be a won'tfix.. not sure. https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/plasma-task-manager-icons-custom-wine.html
The Task Manager maps windows to .desktop files based on window meta data like WM_CLASS. The WM_CLASS here probably matches the name of the normal Mixxx .desktop file.

We should see if we can make this Just Work™. Also semi-related, on the subject of wanting to be able to easily launch multiple versions of the same app: Bug 389035.
Looks like an old issue. Setting it to needs more info. Please if this is not an issue any more let us know. Bugs placed into NEEDSINFO status will receive a reminder if the ticket: Is at least 15 days old Has not received any comment within 15 days If a bug remains in NEEDSINFO for another 15 days with no comment, it will be closed as RESOLVED > WORKSFORME.
This issue is definitely still an issue. Please don't put bugs in NEEDSINFO WAITINGFORINFO status just because they're old--especially not if they've been marked as confirmed. At least try to reproduce them yourself first. In this case the technical discussion makes it clear that it is a known issue. But really it's more of a wishlist thing.
