Currently, the screen edge gestures allow to e.g. lock the screen or show the application launcher.

Some more options would be nice, for me a virtual keyboard would be the most important one.

Regarding the virtual keyboard, the primary goal should be to automatically show it when a widget has keyboard focus, as indicated by XIM on X11. Not sure if Wayland has similar technology to inform the compositor that an application has an active widget which accepts keyboard input.

On Wayland the keyboard shows when needed.

How does this work in case of "Type to search", e.g. on the Dashboard Application launcher?
There is no widget which can be activated.
