shows the blinking artifacts

"Auto Hide" panels cause blinking artifacts on the screen if the "sliding popups" effect is on. The panels open normally, but when they close, a stripe is often left on the screen where the panel was. The stripe blinks on and off for several minutes or until the panel is activated again. Switching to a new virtual desktop also stops the blinking. It doesn't happen if "sliding popups" is off. (This is not a new problem. I haven't been able to use sliding popups for a long time.)
