Description Mark 2018-02-11 17:12:33 UTC
Hi,

No, this is (probably) not due to the activity thing itself. It merely exposes the issue.

Follow these steps:
1. Create a new activity (you need to have 2 or more).
2. Place a widgets anywhere on the screen (i'd take the top left corner as you need to remember the position)
3. Move to the other activity
4. Place a widget on the same location
5. Switch to the first activity

You will now see that the widget moves to the next available spot (moves out of the corner). If you switch back and forth between activities the widget will keep moving to the right. You also can't move the widget back to the top left corner anymore.

I *think* the following is happening (on a technical level). When you place a widget on the desktop it looks for the available slot. It apparently knows where _all_ widgets are regardless of activity's. It should only look in the current activity.

This behavior occurs in the Desktop container and the Folder View container (Plasma 5.12).

Cheers,
Mark

Can't reproduce in:

Plasma: 5.12.2
Apps: 17.12.2
Frameworks: 5.43.0
Qt: 5.10.1
Kernel: 4.14.22-1-MANJARO
OS: Netrunner Rolling

Maybe there are some singularities in your sys that causes the bug?

I will try to make a video about it. It certainly still happens.

An image tells a thousand words?
I guess this video will tell a million then ;)

As you can see in the video, the activity switcher moves around after every activity switch.

Also note that the space it moved from cannot be occupied by a plasmoid anymore. I can't drag anything there. I have to restart plasmashell for that to work again.

This is working for me in Plasma 5.18. Can you test with the beta (or the final release in a few weeks)?
