Krita is great. I would like to use it for texturing 3D models for modding video games. In order to do this it would need Direct Draw Surface DDS file format import/export. The ability to generate openGL Normal Maps (Bump Mapping) and amazingly if it can be done the ability to load NIF NetImerse File Format and OSG Open Scene Graph 3D models so textures can be painted directly on the 3D model. I don't even know if the last part their is even possible as I just make small modifications to textures not using GIMP. GIMP has Open Source Plugins for DDS and Normal Mapping, OSG is open source, NIF specification was leaked in Python a few years ago and open source project like NifSkope current exist for modifying the 3D models but their is nothing that can load the 3D model and allow painting the textures directly on top of it.
Is your request to *import* those file formats: DDS, NIF 3D, OpenGL normal mapping texture, or is your request to also implement a whole 3D view with methods to paint those textures already on 3D models? Because the first part can be relatively easy (*) comparing to the second part. (*) There was "an attempt" to load DDS files recently but it turned out that the DDS implementation in Qt is buggy so it cannot be used in Krita, we'd need to write our own.
