Description DimanNe 2017-12-27 16:35:30 UTC
kwin_x11 crashes (and all the desktop effects are disabled).
I am using this card: NVIDIA Corporation GP104 [GeForce GTX 1080] (rev a1)
and this drivers:
$ dpkg -l | grep nvidia | tr -s ' '
ii nvidia-384 384.90-0ubuntu3.17.10.1 amd64 NVIDIA binary driver - version 384.90

Just after crashing I get this error message in dmesg:
kernel: NVRM: Xid (PCI:0000:01:00): 31, Ch 00000020, engmask 00000101, intr 10000000

Here is description of what xid 31 means: http://docs.nvidia.com/deploy/xid-errors/index.html#topic_2

Restaring kwin in such a way: "$ kwin_x11 --replace&" helps

$ lsb_release -a

According to the provided documentation link this is an NVIDIA error. We cannot do anything about that as it's a proprietary driver. Please report to NVIDIA.
