Description roland 2017-12-12 16:08:09 UTC
I know this will be flagged as "upstream" because it is in all YABUs, but, Neon is not supposed to remain a YABU so you can fix it when you move to your own repos. Since Ubuntu first started packaging, virtualbox has never been correctly configured/installed. It has protection/ownership problems which I suspect are leading to many of these crash issues I see turning up in the search.

You test this with BOINC. Install all of BOINC, reboot, then join the LHC @ Home project within Boinc. It won't take too many work units before you get a message stating "virtualbox is not installed on server."

There has been a hack which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, depending on the YABU and what they tweaked.

The point is, if you __really__ are going to be your own distro instead of a YABU based on a distro which tests nothing, then this needs to be fixed. Other non-YABU distros don't have the problem. Neon users shouldn't have to do this hack.

This bug was never fixed. Finally had to stop running LHC project in BOINC.
Comment 4 Carlos De Maine 2025-09-20 09:35:28 UTC
Thank you for your bug report!
However this bug report was created/provided previous to 01/01/2023 and also has not received any updates since before 01/01/2025.
Unfortunately KDE neon no longer provides updates for anything older than noble 24.04 based edition's.
Please upgrade to KDE neon noble and if you can reproduce the issue after upgrading to an active version, feel free to re-open this bug report.
Thanks for understanding!
