insert a non-empty rewritable disc (I tested a cd-rw) open K3b, create a data project, add some files click "burn" button, check "simulate", click "burn" button K3b asks if you want erase your disc, click "erase" button Result: your project files were not burned, but the disc was erased. Created attachment 154053 [details] screenshot of gBurner on Windows 7 Can reproduce with K3b 22.12 RC. I have tested a burning software called gBurner on Windows 7 for comparison purposes and, as we can see in the attached screenshot, it does not try to simulate a burning if the used disc contains data. I think K3b could behave in the same way. Performing a real erasing when 'Simulate' option is checked seems unexpected/confusing and can result in unexpected data loss.
