Created attachment 109266 [details] Expected look of build-up brush on fill layer On master, the way build-up brush dabs paint on a Fill Layer appears very different to the way it paints on earlier Krita versions like 3.3.1, I don't really know how to describe it, it just looks ugly and unexpected. I will attach the example files "nice dabs.kra" (3.3.1) and "ugly dabs.kra" (master) to demonstrate. Alternatively here are some screenshots to show what it looks like, though I'm no longer certain which versions I used to make them on (Also, I don't know how long these links last): Expected look https://my.mixtape.moe/mbmdud.png Result https://my.mixtape.moe/uxyoky.png How to Reproduce: 1. Make a Fill Layer, Color 2. Activate a build-up brush preset (like Pencil_texture) 3. Paint on the Fill Layer

Actually, it is not just Fill Layers. Transparency Masks and Filter Masks are also affected. This is a bug about 1-channel layers.
Can confirm here.
Does it matter which brush engine you use?
The screenshots are no longer reachable.
The kra files do show the issues, and I am glad to inform you these issues cannot be reproduced on Krita 4.2 pre-alpha (git 688578f). Wysteria, if you can still reproduce this with 'krita: next' or Krita 4.2 and above, don't hesitate to reopen this bug! Note that https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=403576 seems similar, but isn't, that one is specifically about masks.
