Description Lionel MOLLARD 2017-11-15 21:53:13 UTC
Hi everybody,

I'm using Adobe Bridge to assign keywords to my pictures (I found it useful with the metadata template feature), and I'm using Digikam for the catalog and database feature, to search inside my thousand picture directories using the keywords assigned with Bridge. It is working well when I first assign keywords into Bridge and add these pictures to the Digikam database.

But, when I first add pictures to the Digikam database before assigning keywords into Bridge (due to a lack of time, or keywords ideas !), it is not working, even when I perform a file to database metadata sync.
It seems like Digikam is not seeing the changes made to the images from Bridge (all other imaging programms are seeing the changes).
I found that if I add the keywords with Windows explorer (doing a right-click, chosing "properties" and writing into the "details" tab) it is recognized by Digikam directly without having to do a metadata sync (just like if Windows is having the correct "recipe" to do so ! and not Bridge). It is the same i I make the change from Lightroom. It is also working well if I only add a keyword (using the Windows Explorer method) to existing ones (previously setted by Bridge).
So it is looking like if Digikam is expecting a "trigger" tag to update database from jpeg file. But what is this trigger ?

Can someone give me clues or a solution just to write keywords into Adobe Bridge and reading them and updating the database into Digikam ?

Many thanks.

Hi,

I tried several things and I can say it does the same under Linux.

In fact Keywords inside Digikam are updated, but not the Tags (this is what I need to perform efficient searches).

So, to sum up the problem :
Tags are not updated as Keywords when files are changed.

The question is which metadata entry for the Tags will change the program Adobe Bridge. You can change the order, in which digiKam reads the Tags from the image, in the advanced metadata settings.

The problem is, if you add images first in digiKam and later remove tags in Adobe Bridge, these are still present in digiKam? If so, this problem will be solved in digiKam-6.0.0 be fixed.

Lionel,

Do you seen the previous comment from Maik ?

Can you reproduce the dysfunction using the last digiKam 6.0.0-beta3 just
released ?

Hi,

Thank you for your message. Here are some answers :

I downloaded Digikam 6.0.0 and tried my manipulations with the keywords, and :

I successfuly add keywords, or remove keywords from Bridge and managed to retrieve/remove them into Digikam in the Keyword field.

Adding Digikam Tags is also working, but removing Digikam Tags after Bridge update (remove of these keywords) is not working.

Thank you for your product and for following it like this.

Best regards.

You must enable the options in the digiKam settings under Metadata:

[x] Rescan file when files are modified
[x] Clean up the metadata from the database when rescan files
