can you give a bit more information? What kind of image were you making? How much ram was used? How much ram is krita allowed to use according to the performance tab?

Which version of Krita exactly are you using?

Also, please try to download DebugView and have it open when it happens. It might get some log messages that can be useful for debugging...

...I've tried to download the debug stuff, it's total gibberish to me....On
4.0pre-alpha, was erasing excess overspray....I've no idea on any of the
other stuff.

Just checking: 

* Were you really using 4.0 pre-alpha.1 or 4.0-pre-alpha.2? Or were you using 3.x?
* Could you still paint while autosaving happened?

.....Couldn't do anything, it was an every 5 seconds pop-up that wouldn't
stop popping up.....

Ah, okay so you were using a 3.x version of Krita. This popup doesn't exist in Krita 4.x, where the autosave problem has been solved.
