I'm using bytecode hinted truetype fonts as basic fonts. The only way to get nice rendering without antialiasing is using FreeType's bytecode interpreter version 35 [1]. This is possible via FREETYPE_PROPERTIES environment variable with value "truetype:interpreter-version=35". It works with every applications but seems like Falkon does not pass this variable to the FreeType library so I get ugly fonts. FREETYPE_PROPERTIES should not be ignored.
