Description Matthew Trescott 2017-11-03 18:30:43 UTC
When installing programs with Discover on the PackageKit backend, download progress is not displayed. The tasks card displays 1% until the packages have started installing.

This is _not_ a duplicate. I accidentally put the wrong version number in the box so maybe you thought I was on an older version. There is install feedback, but only when the files are being written to the disk, not when the packages are downloading. The version is correct now.

Thanks for the clarification. If you're still seeing this on 5.11.2, then yeah, it's not a duplicate.
Comment 4 Aleix Pol 2017-11-06 11:58:29 UTC
It's not present in 5.11.2, it should be in .3.

Testing on ArchLinux here.

The commit in question is 6ca2bde0933d29933220d789d6d6490b69bc4ed8

See "git tag --contains 6ca2bde0933d29933220d789d6d6490b69bc4ed8" and "git branch --contains" ;)

I just tested 5.11.3, and this is _not_ fixed. Apparently I need to prove this is a bug with a video. :/ https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iWZIjTbDwCQ3MMROMrkE3bUCuFPq7WXB/view?usp=sharing

You can see that the download of Calibre (~30 MiB) appears to hang in Discover for a long time. With pkcon there is download progress feedback, as you see later on. (I deleted the package download cache in between these runs.) Please, don't keep closing this bug without testing. My description was quite clearly different than the bug this was marked a duplicate of. Maybe this isn't visible if your internet is so fast that the download isn't noticeable...

PS: maybe the attachment size limit should be raised; I couldn't upload my recording here.

Oh alright, I was so focused on updates I almost forgot we have progress on application install ^^'.
I'll look into it, sorry for the false hope.

FWIW, I always see progress indicators in Discover 5.11.3 on Kubuntu 17.10 (using the backports PPA) when installing apps with the packagekit backend. They sometimes jump around a bit (Bug 387142), but they're always there.
