On a 1080p display, playing a 1080p video in fullscreen should not show black borders to the left and right of the viewport. However, sometimes this seems to be the case, resulting in distortion which is especially visible for screencasts recorded at native resolution. Test case: `youtube-dl -f 248 https://youtu.be/nMFDrBIA0PM` (1080p WebM version of Plasma 5.11 announcement video) Notes: - Dragon Player does not have this problem (I assume both Gwenview and Dragon Player are using the same backend, i.e. Phonon VLC according to systemsettings). VLC itself is also fine. - This does not affect every video, e.g. https://download.blender.org/peach/bigbuckbunny_movies/big_buck_bunny_720p_stereo.ogg works fine. This may need further testing regarding encoding format and resolution.
I've just tested and I get a proper full screen view on my 1080p monitor with the selected YouTube video after downloading with the command specified. Can you please test and confirm if this issue is still occurring or if this bug report can be marked as resolved. I'm setting status to "needsinfo" pending your response, please change back to "reported" or "resolved" when you respond, thanks.
