I experimented a bit with the sessions and found out that it is possible to create "Unused Sessions". Since they are indistinguishable I thought in this case (and in general) it might be useful to display the assigned session keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Alt+F7, F8, F9 etc.) for each session in the list.
Why? :)
I just tried to reproduce the situation from the original bug report from 2017 but did not manage to produce an "unused session". Instead, when I logged in with the same user into a new session, only the waiting cursor appeared but did not finish the loading process. I also could not enter the original session. So, I used loginctl from a tty session to kill all the other two. In any case, I feel that some hint somewhere that Ctrl+Alt+NUMBER can switch sessions - potentially for rescue purposes - can be useful. I cannot exactly point out where.
