really? what is this for? doesn't work very well.
Comment 1 Nate Graham 2017-10-17 02:07:22 UTC
Without any screenshots, steps to reproduce, or even a description of the issue, we're not going to be able to help fix it. Can you add more information that would help us know what the problem is?

Dolphin and Konqueror both use the same KIO backend for MTP, but if you're not interested in helping to debug this further in Dolphin, I guess there's nothing we can do.

If they use the same backend then why doesn't dolphin work?Konqueror hooked-up in seconds, 2 mouse clicks. All I get with dolphin is the mtp died unexpectedly, how do I take this to the next level?

Find : dosen't work. Yes, I tried installing baloo, reinstalling baloo. That is far as the instructions got. Why does Konqueror find work out of the box? yes, *.epub returns the correct amount of files (matches CLI)

I don't know what to do. What do you need from me? I will try to help.

What version of Kubuntu are you using? I use Kubuntu 17.04 and am familiar with some of the issues you mention, but many of them have actually already been fixed in later versions.

I'm with you, I also burned out on the rolling release distros. However one downside of the slow-n-stable model is that often "stable" is a synonym for "has really old bugs that have already been fixed". On the other hand, bleeding edge means you're the QA team (e.g. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=385594). Pick yer poison! ;) I'm guessing you'll only upgrade when Kubuntu 18.04 (LTS) comes out with Plasma 5.12., and by then you should reap the benefit of a LOT of bug fixes and polishing.

Yes, I have heard that already,  ie. digiKam, I'm running the appimage 5.4 version and 5.7 is out.
Well I do have a blank 40 Gig partition, I could install 17...it's supported till Jan2018 LOLwell there it is......I took my frustration out (on you) and you handled it like a champ.
Bravo.

I know how frustrating it can be when as a user, things just don't work. I've been there. "How can they ship this crap!?" you find yourself wondering. But I just always try to remember: you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

Kubuntu 17.04 is really, really good, and you don't have to take it from me: https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/kubuntu-zesty.html

Also, 17.10 is coming out in 3 days.

Sorry to bother. I downloaded and booted 17.04 from the ISO file.Dolphin "find" is not working, could it be because I'm booting from the ISO file?
CLI found 226 *.epub. Phone hooked up and was able to browse the card.

Interesting. Is your Home directory a separate partition, a folder on your root partition?

It's not a file manager / dolphin error. Can't hook the phone up anymore.Hit or miss if it hooks up.

I might recommend heading over to the KDE forum or subreddit and seeing if folks can help there. Those discussions might tease out some targeted and actionable bugs that we can work on.

Ok, search worked using dolphin by using
*.epub = 0 files found.epub = 226 files found"*.epub = 226 files found?.epub = 0 files found"?.epub = 226 files found
Is this the proper use of meta charaters? {*,?,[ ]) see leading quotation

| Character | Meaning |
| . | Any character |
| * | Zero or more characters |
| ^ | Match any line or string which start with a pattern (i.e ^gnome) |
| $ | Match any line or string ending with a pattern (i.e gnome$) |
| \ | Escapes the next character to remove its special meaning |
| [] | Match one of a list or range (i.e ["abc", "def"] or [1..9] |
| + | Match one or more preceding (i.e grep a+) |
| ? | Match zero or one preceding |
