Description Shitikanth 2017-10-15 14:26:36 UTC
The "reverse scrolling" setting suddenly seems to have stopped working on my computer, but only for non QT apps. So, I have this weird situation that I have scrolling working in one direction in Dolphin, QtCreator, Chrome and all the KDE apps, but in the exact opposite direction in PyCharm, Firefox, DeaDBeef etc.

Observations:

1. Scrolling works fine in other desktop environments. I have tested it with Openbox and XFCE.

2. Removing the .config folder entirely and setting the reverse direction as reversed again makes scrolling work again on all applications. In fact, this is what I had done the last time this happened, but this problem has come back a week later. I can't keep losing my configs for all my applications for this one bug.

Please help me, I really want to use KDE as my primary desktop environment but this issue is really killing the user experience for me.

Which distro are you using? Are you using the synaptics touchpad backend, or libinput?

I am on KDE Neon 5.11. I am using synaptics, which I suppose comes default with the system.

Setting back to unconfirmed now that we have that info. Not sure what this could be, however.

I had removed the .config folder after filed the bug and it was working so far. Today, I have the same reversed scroll behaviour in some apps. I will try to do a "binary search" in the .config folder to find out which file is causing problems.

I will be happy to provide any other information devs might need.

So I have isolated the specific config file that was causing this issue: it is .config/kxkbrc. Removing this one file restores the expected touchpad behaviour for me.

I am attaching the contents of that file for reference.

config file that is causing this bug

With some more trial and error I was able to determine that these two lines in particular cause the issue:

LayoutList=us,us(dvorak)
Model=pc101

Anyone knows what's up? Why would keyboard layout settings interfere with touchpad behaviour?!

Hello! This bug report concerns the Synaptics version of the Touchpad page, which is no longer supported in Plasma 6. Can you please see if the issue still happens when using Libinput? If so, please change the status back to "REPORTED." If not, go ahead and change it to "RESOLVED FIXED", or let the bot do it automatically after a month. Thanks!
