Is it really necessary to copy the entire archive instead of extracting it directly to a folder of similar name (e. g. /tmp/kde-user/ktar-n[pidof kio_archive)?
Are you using Plasma 4 or Plasma 5? If unsure, please ask in a forum of your distribution.
I'm definitely using Plasma 4 in Kubuntu 14.04.5.

KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this feature request is already implemented in Plasma 5, or is no longer applicable.
