When importing transactions, payee name matching sometimes shortens the payee even though full version payee exists. For instance, when the payee "Loan" and "Loan 3yr" exist, when the import file contains "Loan 3yr", kmymoney will replace payee with "Loan".

Hi, I am no longer able to check as I have since moved over from kmymoney to beancount.
This is probably still true, and is an unfortunate but known effect of the general payee matching. You can get around it by not using partial name matching for the payee with the longer name, or by using a matching list with all entries longer than the short name not to match. I'm changing this to a wishlist - to request that (perhaps by configuration, or maybe just always) if an imported transaction matches more than one Payee, it should match the one with the shorter name.
