First mentioned on Ubuntu forums: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2371151 Relevant: I've determined the problem lies in "Panel Options > Panel Settings > More Settings > Visibility Section" where now with the default setting of "Always Visible" is now allowing windows to be below the panel. eg. In the case of when a window is maximized, or also when the global window placement logic decides to align to the top of the desktop space which otherwise would be defined by the bottom of the top panel & isn't anymore. I've applied a less-than-ideal workaround by selecting "Windows Can Cover" in "Panel Options > Panel Settings > More Settings > Visibility Section". Screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/MC2vF
Can you run xprop and click on the top panel please, then paste output here and reset the bug status back to unconfirmed.
Also are you really running plasma 5.5.5?
Created attachment 107810 [details] xprop output
$ sudo aptitude show plasma-desktop Package: plasma-desktop New: yes State: installed Automatically installed: no Version: 4:5.5.5-0ubuntu1 Priority: optional Section: universe/kde
In case it matters to anyone, this started in a forum post here: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2371151
