Description Germano Massullo 2017-08-25 14:44:18 UTC
Sometimes, panel icons of running applications, flicker many times per second, when a new application is opened.
Note that the following video for refresh rate reasons, does not show well the icons flickering effect

KDE Frameworks 5.36.0
Qt 5.7.1
4.12.5-300.fc26.x86_64 + amdgpu on a RX480 graphic card

I noticed it happens when the machine has a non short uptime, for example more than 4 days.
I don't recall having experienced it on Intel based VGAs

Forget it. It happens even with a few uptime hours. Please tell me if I can retrieve some useful infos

Hmm can you narrow down if this happens with only specific apps? It looks like a window being shown/hidden very fast.

It looks like most of the problems are triggered by
amarok-2.8.90-11.fc26.x86_64

.
Comment 6 Germano Massullo 2017-11-25 20:26:47 UTC
I am experiencing the same problems even if Amarok is on tray icon only
Comment 7 Nate Graham 2017-12-13 19:03:49 UTC
Are you using any Amarok functionality or plugins that could be rapidly opening and closing a window?

No I haven't changed Amarok configuration in last 3-4 years.
But since I have upgraded to Plasma 5.11 I no longer had this problem, so let me use the system for some other days to check if the problem will happen again
Comment 9 Nate Graham 2017-12-13 19:12:55 UTC
Fantastic, after those few days of observation please close this bug or return it to the UNCONFIRMED state. Thanks!
Comment 10 Germano Massullo 2017-12-15 20:11:35 UTC
Still have not experienced the bug in Plasma 5.11. I am closing the bugreport, I will reopen it in case it will happen again
Comment 11 Nate Graham 2017-12-15 20:23:53 UTC
Excellent, thanks again.
Comment 12 Germano Massullo 2017-12-21 09:41:48 UTC
Sadly I started experiencing the bug also on 5.11.3
Comment 13 Germano Massullo 2018-03-02 19:18:23 UTC
In my humble opinion this is part of a bigger problem of amdgpu video drivers

Black intermittent quirks/corrupted user view on KDE Plasma with latest Mesa
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1421353

Firefox quirks (black and/or white squares)
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104216

As quickly said in Freedesktop bug, soon I will make various tests with old Mesa and Mesa 18, and I will let you know as soon as possible
Comment 14 Germano Massullo 2018-05-20 14:22:32 UTC
Luckly I am no longer experiencing this problem
Comment 15 Germano Massullo 2018-06-08 07:00:08 UTC
I have noticed the problem again in 5.12.5 version, triggered by many different applications, for example Amarok, KTorrrent, etc.
Comment 16 Germano Massullo 2018-08-16 11:28:44 UTC
experiencing the problem even with GTK applications like Libreoffice.
Is there anything I can do to retrieve any kind of useful infos?
Comment 17 Nate Graham 2020-07-12 04:53:23 UTC
Very strange. Is it still happening in Plasma 5.19 for you?
