Description Lord Alveric 2017-07-25 06:32:19 UTC
Panel -> More Settings -> Visibility -> Auto Hide
simply fails to auto hide anymore.

I recently upgraded KDE to the latest on the special distro, and now the Panel no longer auto hides. If I restart KDE, it will initially work but then drop down and refuse to go away no matter what.

I am running KDE on 3 displays.

Please email me at fred.mitchell@gmx.de if you have further questions.
Thanks.

Comment 1 Kai Uwe Broulik 2017-07-25 09:27:16 UTC
I can confirm that something weird is going on. The panel doesn't auto-hide after timeout but only if I focus another window. Clicking where the panel would be, even if it's hidden, results in the applet that's under the cursor to be triggered.
Comment 2 Fabian Vogt 2017-07-25 09:47:52 UTC
Works fine here, with Plasma 5.8.7 and Frameworks 5.32.
Only a single screen though.
Comment 3 Alexander Mentyu 2017-08-28 09:11:02 UTC
Works normally on single display in:

Distribution: KDE neon Developer Edition Unstable Branches
KDE Plasma Version: 5.10.90
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.37.0
Qt Version: 5.9.1
Kernel Version: 4.10.0-32-generic
Comment 4 dag 2018-03-08 16:08:10 UTC
Using two panels here. Panel with task manager on right monitor, right side. Auto hide works weirdly. Pops up every time a new window is opened and sometimes get "stuck" in visible state for a long time. Fedora 26 with plasmashell 5.10.5
Comment 5 Martin Zbořil 2018-05-22 12:59:17 UTC
I am experiencing same issue with plasmashell 5.10.5 on kubuntu 17.10
and configuration with single screen and two panels organised as in unity where left panel is set to auto-hide, this worked once it was set up originally, but often stops working - even when plasmashell is restarted, and auto-hide is set again, the right panel still does not hide and covers the active window forever.
Comment 6 Martin Zbořil 2018-06-05 17:27:29 UTC
sorry! there is no real problem except when an application requires attention, then the panel stops hiding.. it took me while to spot the difference between the attention seeker and an app with focus..

What is the difference? I don't see any apps requiring attention, but my panel will not hide. What am I missing?
Comment 8 Nate Graham 2021-01-06 17:54:26 UTC
Auto-hide is working for me in Plasma 5.20 and git master. Is anyone still experiencing it in 5.20 or later?
Comment 9 Fabian Vogt 2021-01-06 17:57:11 UTC
I can only report that on 5.18, autohide somehow stops working after some time, as if the attention flag wasn't cleared properly. It works fine after plasmashell --replace and I have no idea how to reproduce it reliably...

Re-opening since 5.18 is an LTS version.

Still can't reproduce on 5.21.
Comment 12 Dominik Kummer 2021-07-27 08:36:26 UTC
Any auto-hidden panel (even empty ones) still pop up after changing window focus on single and multi screen. There can be situations where its pretty annoying, e.g.: switch to a maximized window and use its titlebar because it is hidden behind the up-popping top-panel. So one has to de-focus the top-panel first. Destroying workflow.

KDE Plasma 5.22.3
KDE Frameworks 5.84.0
Comment 13 Phil 2021-08-20 07:15:41 UTC
Also Panel Visibility (auto hide & windows cover) and Opacity settings are broken on my system:

Operating System: Fedora 34
KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.83.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2
Kernel Version: 5.13.10-200.fc34.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11

Any help would be appreciated.

I have this problem since I was on kubuntu 18.04. My current setup is:
kubuntu 20.04
KDE Plasma 5.18.8
KDE Framework 5.68.0
Qt Version: 5.12.8
Single monitor, but the graphics card is connected in 2 monitor inputs (HDMI and DP) and the OS assumes 2 monitors. The problem persist, regardless if I replicate the output of one "monitor" to the other or not.

I have 2 panels (bottom and right side). The right side panel is set to autohide; and I use click to focus windows activation policy. The panel hides only after I hover the mouse over it. Whenever I change focus to some window, the panel appears (pops left) and I have to hover over it again, for it to hide. Of course, there is a task manager on the right panel, but I do not want the panel to appear, just to show me that it changed the selected app in the task manager!

I have found a way to prevent the problem, but that is not what I want. If I set, in Window Behavior settings, the option "Special windows: Hide helper windows for inactive applications" then the problem stops and the panel does not pop up every time I change the window focus. Btw, I am not sure that the option's title refers to "helper windows" in english, or "auxiliary windows" or something else... What I want is for my e-mail and torrent clients, or any other app that may activate a message window, the window to appear and not wait till I bring up the main application window. But that should not mean that I cannot have a panel that autohides!
Comment 15 Stamatis Kavvadias 2022-05-09 18:56:07 UTC
The option that allows panel autohiding in Window Behavior settings is 'Hide utility windows for inactive applications'. I have also mentioned this in bug #378037.
Comment 16 Nate Graham 2022-11-05 03:34:23 UTC
Those aren't supported Plasma versions. As it has been a while since it was reported, can we please ask you to see if you can reproduce the issue with a recent software version? Like Plasma 5.25, or ideally 5.26?

If you can reproduce the issue, please change the status to "CONFIRMED" when replying. Thank you!
