If I install an app, then put in a search term, the app crashes.
May have to do with video acceleration. Other elements crash too, but Discover crashes most consistantly.

Could you provide a backtrace?
Also I'd recommend you to upgrade to a supported version.

Kubuntu has backports to Plasma 5.10.

Reminds me of https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=379024, which was resolved post-5.9.4.

No backtrace, no response, and similar issues in 5.9.x have all been fixed.
