Every time I try to colour or select a brush or a layer it just freezes and every time I put down a colour and drag my digital drawing pen across my tablet he colour takes times to load .When I try to change the different formats it freezes and does not load.

Can you provide the specs of your computer? This sounds like your system might be too weak.
What happens if you wait for a bit longer? Say, 10 minutes?

Also, please try with the latest Krita release version 3.1.4.
