Description Franco Pellegrini 2017-06-27 12:18:35 UTC
I upgraded to the latest packages for my KDE Neon installation, and now the switching between windows of the current application does not work properly.

KDE Plasma: 5.10.2
Frameworks: 5.35.0
QT: 5.9.0
Kernel: 4.4.0-81-generic
OS: 64-bit

I found that if I just do "Alt + `" when the focus is on the application, it will not work.
However, if I first do "Alt + TAB" until I reach an application with multiple windows, and then (Without releasing the Alt), press the "`", then it does work.

Also, I noticed that when the application has a cursor (Say, konsole), and I press "Alt + `", then the cursor does a very short blink, as if it looses the focus for a millisecond or something...

Could be a regression in Qt affecting kglobalaccel. I can confirm the behavior you describe.
Comment 2 Martin Flöser 2017-06-27 14:51:29 UTC
I just restarted kglobalaccel and it works fine afterwards.

Could it be that you use multiple keyboard layouts?
Comment 3 Franco Pellegrini 2017-06-27 14:59:18 UTC
Confirmed that restarting kglobalaccel5 fixes the issue

btw, is there a "proper" way of doing it? or just kill the PID and then kglobalaccel5& ?

And no, I'm only using 1 layout:

English (US, international AltGr Unicode combining, alternative)

> btw, is there a "proper" way of doing it? or just kill the PID and then kglobalaccel5&

that's how I did it as well :-)

> And no, I'm only using 1 layout

Bah, would have been a nice theory as that would have explained it (as we have similar bug reports for that). Seems like it does need investigation.
Comment 5 Franco Pellegrini 2017-06-27 19:31:49 UTC
cool, thanks :)

Let me know if you need to me to install some debug pkgs and try stuff
Comment 6 Franco Pellegrini 2017-07-03 13:38:45 UTC
I am now on 5.10.3 and the issue is gone...

At least, I don't need to restart kglobalaccel5 after booting...
Comment 7 Martin Flöser 2017-07-03 14:51:20 UTC
Setting to worksforme. If it happens again please reopen.
Comment 8 Franco Pellegrini 2017-09-25 14:03:40 UTC
Hey Martin, this manifested again this morning, however in this case, the Alt + ` was working fine, until at some point it stopped working.

After I kill the kglobalaccel5 PID and started it again with kglobalaccel5& I have the switching windows working again, and did not have any more issues yet.

KDE Neon 5.10
KDE Plasma 5.10.5
KDE Frameworks 5.38.0
QT 5.9.1
Kernel 4.4.0-96-generic
OS: 64-bit
Comment 9 Martin Flöser 2017-09-25 15:12:37 UTC
Please monitor whether that happens again and whether there is a pattern.
Comment 10 Franco Pellegrini 2017-09-25 15:38:10 UTC
I sure will, is there any additional package I can install for giving you debug information or something like that?

With 5.11.1 restarting kglobalaccel5 doesn't fix issue.
Comment 13 Dmitry L. 2017-11-01 10:51:39 UTC
As I see Alt+` works for "Current applications" within one process.

For example:
1. Open konsole
2. Create two tabs
3. Detach one tab
4. Press Alt+`
It works

But it doesn't work if I run two konsoles
Comment 14 Franco Pellegrini 2017-11-01 14:44:47 UTC
I started noticing this myself too...

I noticed with Okular, open 2 PDF's, and you no longer can switch between Okulars with Alt + ` and instead, it goes into the main Alt + Tab

The problem of comment #13 following are unrelated and are tracked in bug #386043
Comment 16 Franco Pellegrini 2017-11-08 15:03:07 UTC
This happened to me again in 5.11.3
Comment 17 Franco Pellegrini 2018-02-08 18:35:45 UTC
This seems to be fixed, I'm on 5.12.0 now and this is not manifesting anymore...

I am getting other issues related to shortcuts. I created a new card here https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=390094

Setting back to worksforme.
