Description Feufochmar 2017-06-03 11:31:58 UTC
Since I updated to plasma 5.10.0 yesterday, the dead keys stopped working when I use them in the password field of kscreenlocker. For instance, when typing the dead key "^" followed by a "o", I'm getting a "o" inputted instead of "ô", as if the dead key was not used.

The dead keys still work in other KDE applications like kate or konsole. They also work in the desktop search/execute input box. Since I'm using a console login, I don't know if the logging screen is also affected by this problem.

I'm using a french layout (fr oss).

My password containing accented characters, I use the dead keys to input them. Fortunately for me, I can input the ones I need in another way with the layout I use.
However, someone using accented characters in their password may not be able to unlock their screen if their layout does not provide other ways to input them than using dead keys.

Seems like an issue with the Plasma Components search field. See also Bug 427565. Possible an underlying Qt issue with QML text input.

Moving back to kscreenlocker. I can reproduce this only in the lock screen's password entry text field, not any other text fields in Plasma.

Seems like quite a significant issue as it would prevent a person form unlocking their session if their password contains any characters which need to be typed with dead keys.

I don't have the problem anymore. I don't know when it was fixed for me. I would say at least a few months ago, as I disabled the screenlocker for months after experiencing the problem. I am currently using Plasma 5.19.5, Framework 5.75.0, Qt 5.15.1 (still on Archlinux).
Comment 5 Nate Graham 2020-10-14 14:51:32 UTC
So you can type with dead keys in the screen locker's password entry field now?

Still broken for me in 5.20. Can you test again and verify whether or not this is working for you, and in what version it's working?
Comment 7 Feufochmar 2020-10-15 05:24:06 UTC
Updated to Plasma 5.20.0 this morning, and I don't have a problem with my password (which still contains an accented character for which I use a dead key to input it), though since the button to show the password have disappeared for me with this update, I can only confirm for one dead key, I cannot confirm for other dead keys.

Oh, we fixed this for Plasma 5.24!
Comment 12 tttseeder 2022-04-12 21:31:42 UTC
Hi Folks, I'm running Plasma 5.24.4 and still having the same issue.
Using keyboard layout "English (US, intl., with dead keys)" I can't type double quotes, ã á à â ä, etc.
Can anyone point me to what exactly was fixed and in what version?
