Description yousifjkadom 2017-05-24 16:37:17 UTC
Hi. Currently Okular has no "Rulers" option to enable units measures by mm, inch & pt (PostScript points) units within document like PDF files.

I did not select specific backend for this issue because I feel that this will be very useful for many format.

But frankly speaking, I'm concerned with PDF. If you accept to add this option, please please give support to "pt" units (PostScript points) because there is other program (only open source application available for Linux which give outline editor) will get benefit from this. This program is: jPDFTweak:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/jpdftweak/
http://jpdftweak.sourceforge.net/manual/index.html

Problem of this program is that it need 2nd program (as viewer) for user to add an outline !! 2nd program should show position of mouse position (width X hight) for user need to use hight value for needed outline. Measure should be in PostScript points. Currently developer recommend to use "GSview" program for that:

http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/gsview/get50.htm

However, GSview is primitive viewer & somewhat ugly & it will be very nice to be replaced by Okular as long as you refuse to add ability to edit/add outlines of PDF to Okular .......

Best.

Hi. Please open attached screenshot that I upload. Please look to the area that I pointed by blue rectangle + red line.

Okular already has measurement indicater. But it leak to features:

1) it is currently display width & hight in inch units only.

It need to add option that allow user to change to other units (mile-meters, cent-meters, & MOST IMPORTANTLY postscript units)

2) currently measures display (width + hight) for page as whole & not related to real point at which mouse pointer set within page.

It should be as following:

- when mouse pointer located outside current page, then measures display width + hight of current page as case now in current version of Okular.

- but when mouse pointer located within current page, then measures should show real position of point at which mouse pointer set (I mean real width + real hight of this point within current page). This is the case in GSview.

Best.

Hi.

It is a remainder about this issue.

Dear due you will accept to add this feature or not ?

If yes, please allow me to add something I forgot in 1st post of this thread:

regarding rulers they should be 2: one vertical & 2nd horizontal.

Hi. Please look for this:
https://gitlab.com/scarpetta/pdfmixtool/-/issues/43

It will be very useful if Okular has such rulers (vertical & horizontal), so that user can use them with feature like cropping that it will be implemented by "PDF Mix Tool" in feature - see this also:
https://gitlab.com/scarpetta/pdfmixtool/-/issues/21

I will attach screenshots from a Window program has this feature, so as to explain what I mean & to assist you.

Please notice that in screenshot named "Capture-4", I added a markers in blue colour pointing to W & H points on the horizontal & vertical rulers (in the form of blue arrows drawn by me). Please notice that they are changeable according to the location of mouse pointer within the page of PDF. Also, please notice that pointer of mouse not shown in screenshots due to limitation of Windows system program of taking screenshot which do not allow me to include it.

At the inferior boarder of screenshot named "Capture-4", I added a circle (or in fact semi-circle) in blue colour that I draw around an area show the W+H of the mouse pointer within the page in the format of (W,H)

By the way, where is the "measurment indicator" that was already existing in Okular (see attachment named "measures")? It is not existing in version 1.10 from flatpak !

Kindly, can you assist me to activate it if it is still existing. If it's disappearance is a bug, then inform me to open new issue.

The paper size indicator of the page bar (Settings -> Show Page Bar) is only shown when there are pages of different sizes.

Since Okular 1.11 the page bar is hidden by default, instead the paper sizes are listed in File -> Properties.

Units are another problem, I am looking for a bug report about that.
