I can edit data on IPTC tab but when "Apply" the data disappear.

Under Windows that's the same behaviour.
I've seen that with JPG files the data are retained while with NEF files the data are always lost.
I've disabled the sidecar files (I want to use the database only).

I've understood that metadata are direct view of file content.
That's not a bug, but sitll a pain and another debate.
