Description Kurt Seebauer 2017-05-07 14:19:26 UTC
Hi,

I'm using plasma 5.9.5 and I'm having trouble with krunner. I start it with ALT-Tab and type, but the text doesn't appear on the command line. Mouse click into the command line does not help.
Then I try the application launcher and when I start typing, always exactly the first letter is accepted, then it ignores my input.

I observed the bug for the latest few updates of KDE (frameworks, applications, plasma) in my opensuse tumbleweed. It seems that a "zypper update" can trigger this behaviour, but also simply using KDE for a while without logging out.
Logging out ouf the session makes it work (until it breaks again).

The two bugs always appear and disappear together. I didn't report it earlier, because I don't know how to reliably reproduce it. So, what should I try, what info can I provide to help you fix this?

Thanks!

Same problem in plasma version 5.14.5, Debinan 10
Comment 2 Alexander Lohnau 2020-06-14 16:42:12 UTC
Is this still reproducible?

I have used KRunner a lot and on different platforms and did never notice such a behavior.

Same here, only in the application launcher though. Krunner works fine.
I don't know what made the problem appear, it used to work fine for a week.

Operating System: Debian 10 GNU/Linux

KDE Plasma Version: 5.17.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.70.0
Qt Version: 5.12.5
Kernel Version: 5.6.0-2-amd64

Actually I just figured out that the issue is more subtle in my case, I tried to replace the default application launcher widget by picking it from the widget panel. However I couldn't type in the widgets' dedicated search bar either.
In the end I was not successful with this attempt.

P.S. I couldn't find a way to edit my previous comment on this platform, any idea on how to proceed please?
Comment 5 Alexander Lohnau 2020-07-11 07:02:01 UTC
I actually had a similar issue recently where KWin had some issues (I am running unstable), in this case restarting KWin solved the problem.

And is this also reproducible for other widgets with a text input field, for instance the clipboard one?
