Sorry, would have prevered to put my report to the right categorie, but there is no "panel" or "taskbar" to chose. Auto hide the taskbar works exactly one time. Then taskbar is permanent, till mouse cusor touches panel a second time. Then auto hide is working till doing a klick choosing an application. After this, it is permanent again. (Tested with taskbar at the bottom)
This is only with wayland.
Works here. Can you include version numbers of Qt please and confirm against newer Plasma.

Version increased but there is no change of this issue. Using these packages in archlinx now: plasma-desktop 5.10.4-1 plasma-framework 5.36.0-2 kde-applications 17.04-1 qt5-base 5.9.1-1 System Setting tells in menu Help -> Libraries KDE-Frameworks 3.36.0 Build against Qt 5.9.1 The wayland windowing system Panel still does not AUTO HIDE after starting an application. It hides again after moving with mouse-pointer under the panel wiping there a little bit to the left and right and moving then up again. In x-window-system the AUTO HIDE function is working well.

I cannot reproduce the issue myself anymore, because my hardware broke and I have to use plasma without wayland on a much older PC now. Please close this issue now, if no one else noticed that behavior. Thank you.
