Description Edward 2017-04-19 10:57:40 UTC
I have a MKV file that I wish to freeze on a certain frame. I apply the Freeze (and a Mute) and it holds the frame. I then take a PNG and place it on top of this MKV (no transitions/composites/affines). The image shows, and so does the video under that, but the Freeze effect no longer holds the frame; the animation continues. When I remove the image from this track, the Freeze still doesn't hold the frame. I have to restart the whole thing before Freeze takes affect again.

I'm experiencing this bug too! It's exactly how Edward explained it!

I found a workaround though! I put the PNG clip underneath the frozen clip...

I then put an affine on the frozen clip and set the track to black...

I still hope that you guys fix this bug soon, it's really weird :(

Same issue here, also with Git version from today.

video showing the bug

Here is a video I made showing this bug in action.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Add a video clip to video track 2.
2. Add another clip to video track 3 above, starting a little bit before the end of the video clip on track 2 (tested with video, PNG, and color clip).
3. Click the bottom-left corner of the clip on video track 3 to add a dissolve transition.
4. Drag the "Motion" -> "Freeze" effect to the clip on video track 2.

Result: When playing the project, the clip on video track 2 is frozen as it should be, but when it hits the dissolve transition, the video no longer remains frozen, and the dissolve transition does not occur.

Same problem for me.
kdenlive 17.07.70.
I'll try the workaround.

Thanks for making kdenlive !

Hi,

I'm experiencing the exact same issue (Kdenlive 18.04.2, MLT 6.8.0KDE 5.47.0).
Comment 6 CJ Kucera 2019-02-01 15:21:23 UTC
Yeah, seeing this on 18.12.1 as well, on Arch. I think it's possible that this is resolution-dependant? I'd *not* run into this on the first pass of a video I was making, which was a standard 1080p @ 30fps. The main source clip had been a vertical cellphone video, and I'd realized basically at the very end that I'd been encoding w/ the huge black bars on each side, and decided to redo the project in a "native" vertical resolution (1080x1920). At *that* resolution, the freeze effect totally doesn't work when there's a title overlay, but it does work fine when using the standard 1920x1080 instead.

I've been able to reproduce that twice now - "regular" 1080p consistently works fine for me, but the vertical resolution consistently doesn't. Let me know if I can provide any more info, or a better use case!

Same here.
On windows.
Kdenlive 17.12.0 w/ ffmpeg 3.4.2 (manually added according to the installation guide).
Kdenlive 18.12.1 w/ ffmpeg 4.1 (shipped with Kdenlive 18.12.1).

This is not only with freeze effect but also with speed effect.
It is impossible to subtitle on frozen clips.

Dev cannot backport to 18.12 and older versions anymore as 60% of the code has changed.

Please try with the current Kdenlive AppImage version 19.04.2d to see if there are any packaging issues https://files.kde.org/kdenlive/release/

If the problem/issue doesn't occur when using the AppImage, then it's your configuration or packaging.

Ok, I downloaded the latest kdenlive-19.04.2f-x86_64.appimage and running it straight off seems to work with freezing the video with an overlay ontop. Tried both without anything in between, and a dissolve. Frame was frozen ok.

And I can see what you mean by the code has changed. At first I could not find Freeze, but after clicking "Show All Filters" I found it. The transition also looked different. However, my only problem with having JUST the AppImage is that all the hundreds of other effects that I have in a previous version are not listed. I suppose I'll have to insert a new repository link if I want to update the installed version with this?
